The Next Generation in Schools (NGS) program is an initiative developed by the North Melbourne Football Club aimed at inspiring passion and participation for football amongst boys and girls across the cities of Melbourne & Wyndham and the state of Tasmania. Through varying school-based offerings, the NGS program looks to engage with students from Prep through to Year 9 in the schoolyard, the classroom and after school.

Primary

Offerings for primary schools include:
- Four week in-school football program for grades 3-6 delivered by accredited North Community Coaches.
- FREE 3-game family memberships for all students.
- School visits from North-listed players.
- Club support to help students transition from school programs to Auskick or junior footy.
- Information about school holiday activities including but not limited to Superclinics & Next Generation Academy trial days.
- Giveaways & prizes.

Secondary

Offerings for secondary schools include:
- Three week in-school football program for years 7-9 delivered by accredited North Community Coaches.
- FREE ticketing to attend a North home game at Etihad Stadium or Blundstone Arena.
- School visits from North-listed players.
- Club support to help students transition from school programs to junior footy or Next Generation Academy.

AFL Community Camp

The AFL Community Camps are an essential part of the AFL calendar which recognizes the importance of grassroots football and the community in Australia’s game. The North Melbourne Football Club, along with the 17 other AFL Clubs spend two-days each year meeting fans and developing stronger links between Australian Football & the community.

2018 was the fifth year in a row that NMFC visited Tasmania for the camp with players spread right across the State. Some key highlights from this year’s camp include:
- Engaging with 20% of all schools across Tasmania in just two days.
- Inspiring 6,200 students and community participants in the process.
- Visiting community groups including but not limited to Physical disABILITY Tasmania, Tassie Mariners State Academy, Tasmanian Aboriginal Council & the Hobart Youth Arts & Recreation Centre.
- Playing a JLT Game & holding Next Generation Academy Gala days prior to the camp.
- Hosting formal events including Civic Reception with Hobart Council, Members Function & Business to Business Networking function.
Launching GOAL, a new sports themed curriculum and teachers' resource for Tasmanian schools.

Player appearances

The North Melbourne Football Club takes great pride in the work that our players, coaches & staff undertake across Melbourne, Wyndham & Tasmania. Our Club’s presence in these regions helps the AFL to grow the game by inspiring passion and participation amongst the community. Throughout the year, our players visit schools, Auskicks, junior clubs & various other community groups making them unavailable for additional non-club related appearances.
