I’ve seen Gary Ablett throw a basketball into a ring from a balcony, Daniel Motlop nail trick-shots from the car park at AAMI Stadium and many NBA basketballers sink hail Mary’s from half-court, but nothing compares to what I saw Jamie Macmillan pull-off in Hobart today.‘Bikkies’ as we call him, kicked the most amazing goal at Blundstone Arena that has to be seen to be believed.

Mucking around after training with Aaron ‘Fishy’ Mullett and Brad ‘Bazz’ McKenzie, a ball was kicked out from the goal square and it dribbled in front of Mullett. He volleyed it to Bikkies, who kicked it back, got back on the receiving end again, kept it alive in the air somehow without touching it, put it out ahead of himself, then ran onto it and snapped a miraculous goal.

Local media, players and spectators all saw it - Bikkies’ celebration was worthy of what I reckon will be declared the 2012 Training Goal of the Year.

JMac hasn’t stopped talking about it and Fishy is a little upset at not getting any credit for the goal assist. He rightly says the goal would never have happened without his quick thinking and skill.

Despite the fall-out, the trio has stuck together and even secretly followed Daniel Wells down the street when we got back to the hotel. In full club uniform, Wellsy strolled through the mall in Hobart with JMac, Fishy and Bazz close behind watching to see what he was up to. Let me point out, it’s considered arrogant to be out and about in full club gear. However it didn’t seem to bother Wellsy who was clearly looking for some attention.
Well, he got it. The boys cornered him in a sports store and asked for his autograph but to their surprise, one of the staff members intervened and demanded they leave Wellsy alone. There’s a rumour floating around that Wellsy was there for an in-store appearance but was trying to keep it on the down low.

By the way, is it bad that I’m kind of watching the movie ‘Anna and the King’ starring Jodie Foster while writing this? It’s not like I chose it. It was on when I turned the TV on that’s all. She’s a good actor and lured me in.

It’s been a funny day weather-wise in Hobart. We had a great training run in front of hundreds of local supporters at Blundstone Arena. The sun was out but there was a slight chill in the air. It’s been threatening to rain all afternoon. Hopefully the rain will hold off for the game tomorrow.

If the weather closes in, it won’t bode well for Sam Wright on the flight home on Sunday evening after the game. On the trip down, it got a little bumpy at one stage and Wrighty told one of the physios it made him car sick. Maybe we should put him on the Spirit of Tasmania next time.

While Wrighty was car sick, Leigh ‘Patch’ Adams definitely won’t be love sick being away from home for Easter. I busted him having a romantic afternoon tea in the city with his better half Cassie and took this picture.
Cassie is probably on hand to bail Patchy out of trouble given last time we went away he got stuck in the hotel stairwell because all the doors locked behind him. After about 20 minutes, one of the boys finally came to his rescue.

It’s not easy getting to and from your room though in a foreign building. At the place we’re at now, it’s the old fashioned key lock doors - not those fancy swipe cards. But in the elevator, Brent Harvey tricked me into thinking I had to swipe my key across a light-panel in the lift to get access to my floor. It took me a few goes to realise Boomer was having me on.

I had to nick out before the shops closed earlier to buy an Easter egg for my wife Elise. Now before you all accuse me of being a bad husband and leaving it to the last minute, I did actually buy her some chocolate this week. However, I left it in the car and it all melted. Not entirely my fault and I even went to the trouble of buying her dark chocolate which she loves.

So we’re about to make history in Hobart by playing the first game of AFL for premiership points at Blundstone Arena. Apparently Fitzroy played in Hobart a few times in the 1990’s so it’s not a first ever for the state, just that particular ground.

GWS are set to give us a great contest on Sunday and all the boys are fired up to get a win after falling just short against Essendon.

If you’ve made the trip down or are watching from home, wish us luck!
