Will Sierakowski’s name has featured regularly on North Melbourne team lists of late, but unfortunately the former Hawk hasn’t been able to make the final 22, yet.

If his recent form in the VFL is anything to go by, he may not have to wait too much longer.

“It’s good to be noticed and hopefully I’ll get my opportunity soon. But being noticed by the coaches and to be spoken about in match committee is also pleasing in a way,” Sierakowski told kangaroos.com.au.

North picked up Sierakowski from Hawthorn for pick 58 in the 2011 National Draft.

The skilful left-footer has been plying his trade with Werribee in the VFL and is now starting to make a play for an AFL debut after being named as an emergency on several occasions.

“It’s just a positive reinforcement of how well you’re playing in the VFL and it gives you a bit more extra confidence I guess…It’s a great environment to be in here at Werribee and just a nice positive atmosphere.”

The 21-year old plays mainly across half-back and on the wing and had 18 touches in the Tigers’ convincing victory over Casey on Saturday.

“I had a few things to work on when I came to North…I’ve been mainly trying to bring some more run and outside work into my game because I play on a wing and at half-back, but also cleanness by hand and foot.

“Just trying to link up as much as possible through the middle of the field and help out a little bit down back and play my role as a winger.”

That ability to run was highlighted by 10 handball receives.

“I’ve worked on my intensity and my speed a lot this year and generally I think my fitness is pretty good,” he added.

Being on the cusp means more time with the head coach and Sierakowski says Brad Scott has been extremely positive.

“He’s been great and Shane Watson has also spent a lot of time with me as well. They’re just making sure I know my role if I’m brought in and ensuring I’m ready to go when and if the time comes.

“We’ve got John Lamont as our development coach at Werribee too and he's great at motivating us, but it’s good encouragement knowing that you’re close and another good performance might get you into the ones the next week.”

As his direct coach, perhaps the final word should be left to Lamont. He made this observation following the weekend’s match;

"I really enjoyed Will Sierakowski's game on the wing. Some real AFL quality stuff which was pleasing."
