Heading into the Round 15 clash with Richmond at Etihad Stadium, NMFC.com.au presents some interesting stats and facts relating to the two teams.

• It took 11 years and 18 games for North Melbourne to defeat Richmond in the VFL.

After entering the competition in 1925, the first victory didn't arrive until 1936. In one of the upsets of the season, North roared back from a 17-point three quarter time deficit to win by eight.

Since North's first victory against the Tigers, the two sides have been relatively even head-to-head with the Roos holding a 66-64 edge (two draws).

• North Melbourne's biggest winning margin of all time came against Richmond.

At 141 points in Round 2 of 1990, it narrowly edges out the 140-point victory against Sydney in 1983.

Understandably the game also doubles as North's second highest score ever, its best first quarter and indeed any single quarter in the Kangaroos' history.

A trio of players who would become a vital part of the 1990's were playing just their sixth game - Anthony Rock, Anthony Stevens and Wayne Carey.

• John Longmire holds the two best individual goal-kicking performances against Richmond.

The current Sydney coach kicked 12 goals against the Tigers in the aforementioned 1990 game, and then backed it up the next year with nine in Round 14 of 1991.

Longmire has kicked the most goals kicked against Richmond by any Roo with 60 (from 18 games). Rounding out the top three is Wayne Carey and Jock Spencer, both on 53.

Among current players Drew Petrie leads the way with 23, boosted by his seven-goal haul in 2012.

• North's most recent draw came against Richmond in 2009.

Trailing by seven goals at the main break, the Kangaroos hit back strongly in the second half behind the efforts of Leigh Harding (three goals) and Brent Harvey (31 possessions, two goals).

It appeared North had completed the task when Harding ran into an open goal and put North in front with just 80 seconds left. However, Richmond hit back immediately with a major of their own, leading to a slightly controversial finish.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

• North tends to defeat Richmond in the seasons it makes finals.

In each of the last seven seasons North has made the finals (1999, 2000, 2002, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2012), it has defeated Richmond during the home and away season, with a total record of 9-0.

However in the remaining, non-finals seasons during that time (2001, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011), North only has a 3-1-5 (wins, draws, losses) record against Richmond.
