Cyril Rioli and Grant Birchall have highlighted Lindsay Thomas as one of the main threats on Saturday at Etihad Stadium.

Speaking to the Hawks’ official website, Rioli opened up the possibility of Thomas earning one of the game’s highest honours.

“I think he’ll be up for All-Australian selection,” Rioli said.

“It’s going to be a tough day for the boys down there (against Thomas). Hopefully they can keep him quiet.”

“He’s been criticised about his goal kicking but he’s improved that and he’s been a star all year.”

Birchall is one of the defenders who will spend time around Thomas and he was another with high praise for the number 12.

“He’s arguably the best small forward in the game at the minute. He’s had a fantastic season and he’s very damaging around goals.

“We have to put a lot of time into him and hopefully nullify his influence.”

When the two sides last met in Round 5, North lost by just three points in a nail biter at the MCG.  On that day, it was the ball movement of the Roos that caught Hawthorn out, something Birchall says the team will be out to rectify.

“They got us with their spread…we were unable to control the footy and it really hurt us. We were a bit lucky they missed a few opportunities in front of the goals and we got away with one in the end.”
