Brent Harvey is one of the most recognisable players in the AFL with the small forward becoming an iconic footballing figure throughout his 18-year career.

But despite his popularity and fame, it didn't stop him backing the AFL's initiative to trial names on the back of jumpers.

'Boomer' supported the plan when the idea was floated last year and now 12-months on, it has become a reality with the Roos to wear the special uniforms against Collingwood in Round 5.

The pioneering move by the AFL follows other sporting codes around the world and it has been suggested that the change could become permanent depending on the public's reaction.

?Clubs have been coming to us for a while now asking us to consider this idea," AFL Football Operations Manager Mark Evans said.

"There's lots of young people and new people to our game who they think could have some benefit by being able to recognise names."

While Harvey and the players will wear the jumpers at the MCG on Saturday, after that point, you can make one your own.

The unique player named guernseys will be available to the highest bidder in an online auction that commenced on Monday.

The jumpers will be match worn (depending on team selection) and signed by the player.

All the profits from the auction will go to the Royal Children?s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
