After keeping perhaps the league’s most highly publicised recruit all time goalless, there’s little wonder Scott Thompson has won praise from the coaches.

It’s the second time in succession the defender has achieved the feat; in Round 5 last year he received two votes for his efforts, this time it was a perfect 10.

Thompson’s 24 disposals, 7 marks and 9 rebound 50’s were enough to move him into equal fifth in the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year voting, alongside the Magpies’ Scott Pendlebury.

Just a vote behind, Ben Cunnington continued his remarkable start to the season as clear second best-on-ground; 30 disposals, 11 clearances and 10 tackles was the true midfielder’s example of a triple-double.

Cunnington received 8 votes, while Leigh Adams got 5 in perfect conditions for a wet-weather specialist.

Adams threw himself into every contest with conviction, winning 29 touches to go with his 7 tackles.

Meanwhile, Daniel Wells’ dynamic second half was enough to net him two votes. After a slow start to the year, the Syd Barker Medalist answered his critics in the best possible way with 3 goals to go with 24 possessions.
