Triple M commentator Damian Barrett has joined Carlton CEO Greg Swann in stating Good Friday Football will go ahead in 2015.

Ahead of the Kangaroos’ clash against Collingwood, Barrett also claimed North Melbourne would be involved in the first fixture of its kind.

“It will go ahead. It will be the Round 1 fixture for next year, given that the AFL have been keen to use this weekend next year with the constraints around the (Cricket) World Cup,” he said on Saturday.

“Lock it in for between 4 (pm) and 4.30 start time at Etihad Stadium… go one step further and lock North Melbourne in as being one of the team two teams.”

Speaking from the Royal Children’s Hospital a day earlier, North chairman James Brayshaw said the Roos should be the first team considered for Good Friday Football.

“…we'd like to think that for 30 years we've been beating the door down so, if and when (Good Friday Football happens), we should be at the front of the queue.

"I'm pretty confident that North Melbourne will be involved."

The club first floated the idea of a Good Friday match in 1992 and has campaigned since to play on the national holiday.

Over 1,000 fans attended an open training session at Arden Street on Friday, supporting the Kangaroos’ push.

North's players trained in special jumpers emblazoned with '#GFF' on the back.
