Andrew Swallow is set to make his comeback from an achilles injury on Sunday, named in the middle for VFL affiliate North Ballarat.

The number 9 captain will join ruckman Eric Wallace, Liam Anthony and Ben Jacobs on-ball in a Roosters' side featuring a strong North Melbourne contingent.

"He's (Swallow) really looking forward to it. He's got that sparkle back into his eye," Kangaroos' coach Brad Scott said on Thursday.

"He's gone into a week for the first time in a long time preparing to play a game of footy, so he's really keen and it's great to have him back."

While there's no timeframe on a potential return to the seniors, Scott is confident North's inspirational leader can be back in the royal blue and white sooner rather than later.

"I'll go down to Geelong (Simonds Stadium) and watch him on Sunday and try and get a feel for that.

"It's a bit of an intangible. We can't just put a set number on it or pull an arbitrary figure out of the air, but he's been training really well and with someone like him you'd think if he plays well and gets through unscathed, he pretty much comes available for selection.

"But we'll just watch him and see how he goes."

Last week, Chris Judd suffered a hamstring injury just minutes into his comeback game. He'd undergone achilles surgery in the pre-season.

But Scott is reading little into talk the Carlton star was brought back too early.

"Chris Judd was forced, was pushed and that could have happened to anyone," he added.

"There's no doubt the more training and game-time you have under your belt, the less likely you are to get injured, but we've just got to make sure that we are really confident (with Swallow).

"I think the key thing is, even if a player gets re-injured you've got to look back and say 'with all the information you had at the time, would you have made the same decision again?', and that's what we'll be making sure we do with Andrew."
