North Melbourne smashed St Kilda by 59 points on Saturday afternoon. The Roos are now a game clear in sixth and are breathing down the neck of the teams competing for the top four.

Much of the win can be attributed to the efforts of Todd Goldstein, who ended up with 130 fantasy points in a powerful display against young Saint Tom Hickey.

Goldstein dominated from the first bounce, collecting 39 hit-outs, but just as importantly, 20 disposals around the ground.

What’s more, the big man drifted forward and took some clean contested marks, and kicked sweetly for two goals.

Goldstein’s score has seen his price rise up to $470,102 in AFL Fantasy, which is still less than what he was worth at the start of the season.

Considering his durability and ability to go big, he remains a top fantasy option.

In the midfield, Ryan Bastinac was the standout, enjoying a rare game of fantasy accumulation. While always a solid contributor, he went to town in a ferocious defensive display, grabbing ten tackles.

While Bastinac only collected 20 disposals, he slotted two nice goals and took six marks. It is a great indicator of the fantasy scoring he’s capable of, if he can find more consistency.

The other surprise of the day was Sam Wright, who was North’s leading possession getter with 30 (21 kicks, 9 handballs).

Wright was one of the go-to defenders, amassing most of his stats coming out of the back 50. Thanks to the space he was afforded, the number 19 ended up taking 10 marks and delivered the ball to his team-mates at 80 per cent efficiency.

Wright finished up with 115 AFL Fantasy points and has now put in two decent performances in a row. This might just have cemented his spot in the side in time for the finals.

If he can continue to put in 75-85 range scores, Wright’s current price of $277,179 will rise significantly. However, potential buyers beware. The reason he’s so cheap is his early season output was much lower than what he’s shown over the past fortnight.

Around the grounds

The big fantasy news this weekend was Jackson Macrae’s 168 AFL Fantasy points, which helped get the Western Bulldogs over the line against the Gold Coast on Saturday afternoon.

Macrae was on fire in the third quarter, collecting 17 disposals on his way to a total tally of 43. He also slotted two goals, took six marks and netted five tackles.

The Bulldogs’ youngster is now sixth this year for total AFL Fantasy points.  At $513,812, he is still a little underpriced for his best, although his scoring has been dropping slowly as the season rolls on.

The other news this week was the return of Patrick Dangerfield. While Adelaide couldn’t conjure a win against Hawthorn and lost by 12 points, the Crow midfielder’s owners would be smiling with his 137 AFL Fantasy Points.

In his best display since Round 9, Dangerfield collected 41 disposals and laid six tackles. Unfortunately for the Crows, he missed three attempts at goal, which might have seen them home.

Dangerfield is a bit of a gamble this season, but Adelaide has a relatively soft draw over the AFL Fantasy finals. His price of $453,372 is very cheap for a player of his quality.
