Key matchups:

1. Currie v Jason Holmes
"I thought Cuz had the better of him around the grounds. He took four or five really strong pack marks which was a positive. Around the stoppages, the ruck work was pretty even. It was a pretty good dual with Cuz against the big American." – Senior Development Coach Gavin Brown

2. Hine v Trent Dennis-Lane

Story of the game:
"It was a good close game up until half-time. Then in the third quarter they (Sandringham) really got on top of us, particularly at the stoppages. They really cleared the ball well and got it going their way.

"They got us out the back and defensively we were lacking a little bit and they got us over the top. That led to a handy lead for them and we just couldn’t wind it back. In the last quarter we dealt with the goals a bit but we just kept missing unfortunately. We were never in the hunt in the end."

Points of interest:
1. Jamie Macmillan made a successful return to football after missing 18 weeks due to a broken fibula.

"Jamie played the full game - he had about 75% game time with about three rotations a quarter just to get him through.

"He was quite solid actually. He obviously ran out of a bit of gas because he hasn’t played for so long. He was a little rusty early but as the game went on his decision making got better, although he wasn’t too bad and I thought for his first game back he did pretty well.

"The pleasing thing is he actually got through his game. I was quite impressed." – Gavin Brown

2. Tim McGenniss also made his comeback to the VFL after a month out with an injured shoulder.

"He didn’t have his customary run-with role today, he had bits and pieces. He played on (Jarryn) Geary and (Adam) Cockie) for a little while.

"He kicked a couple of really good goals and got a bit of the footy. His second quarter was terrific and then he started cramping a bit later, but he got through the game after having a fair bit of time out with injury as well.”

3. Daniel Currie continues to work on the versatility in his game.

"It’s an interesting one for him, because with Goldy (Todd Goldstein) playing so well and he never gets injured the big fella, Cuz has just got to bide his time unfortunately.

"He’s been going forward a bit as well which he did again today, adding another string to his bow. Today he put it together and launched at the footy. The most pleasing thing was he’s been working really hard on his marking and he really did well with that today which was terrific."

4. Mason Wood was impressive again and is doing everything he can to earn a senior debut.

"He got a fair bit of the footy. He’s been in some pretty good form Mason and today was no exception.

"He marked the ball quite well again. He was quite solid again and he’s putting his hand up for a senior debut, so he’s just got to keep doing what he’s doing and eventually he’ll get his opportunity.”

5. Scott McMahon was a general in defence against relentless pressure from the Zebras.

“Scott was quite solid back there, it was a battle. They (Sandringham) looked really dangerous all day up there. They set up in such a manner that made their forward line really dangerous so once they won the ball from stoppages, which was fairly regularly, it opened us up.

"He was always defending under the pump but I thought he held up quite well."

Most likely call-ups: Mason Wood, Jamie Macmillan
