Cameron Ling will not be taking a senior coaching position at any AFL club in the near future.

The former Geelong premiership player and North Melbourne leadership consultant has chosen to stay in the media and spend time with family, rather than a permanent role in the coaches box.

"When it finally came down to it, it was my decision well and truly and conjuction with Nicole, it was a family decision and we're both very excited about it," Ling told Channel 7.

"It was a hard decision because some really good people were having conversations with me about going and working at their football clubs."

However Ling refused to rule out a future in coaching.

"I never say never, so I don't know what the future holds."

North Melbourne is yet to determine if Ling will continue his leadership role next year.
