It’s no secret, Brad Scott and the North match committee members will have plenty of headaches when it comes to selecting the side to take on Essendon in Saturday night’s Elimination Final.

All five players rested and/or managed for Round 23 against Melbourne will be expecting to slot straight back into the side meaning five must come out. With no underperforming players against the Demons, Scott knows there are bound to be some disappointed Kangaroos.

Let’s take a look at the situation and consider those likely to play.

Have your say on the changes below.

Michael Firrito
The reason: In arguably the best form of his career, Firrito was forcibly rested against Melbourne and given his performances so far this year, is guaranteed to come back into the side. Able to play on tall and small forwards, the defender’s flexibility and ability to generate some run out of the back line is critical. With Lachlan Hansen in doubt with a hip injury, a straight swap could be on the cards.

The challenge: None

Todd Goldstein
The reason: Goldstein’s late season form has been outstanding and he was unlucky not to squeeze into the All-Australian 40-man squad in the eyes of some. He’s shouldered the ruck load solo in every game bar one, and was rested against his will.

The challenge: Daniel Currie was serviceable against Melbourne and Brad Scott was encouraged by what he saw, although it’s extremely unlikely Currie would hold Goldstein out.

Lindsay Thomas
The reason: One of the best small forwards in the league, Thomas is one of North’s first picked players every week. The number 12 sat out last Round with a slight injury concern but has already been declared fit to play by the club’s medical staff.

The challenge: None

Luke McDonald
The reason: He’s played every game this year except one due to illness and has performed remarkably well despite his inexperience. With a thumping left foot and courage which epitomises the North Melbourne way, the youngster’s magnet should already be up on Scott’s whiteboard. McDonald is also versatile and played a stunning run-with role on Crow Rory Sloane in his last game. A match-up on one of Essendon’s guns could be on the cards.

The challenge: None.

Levi Greenwood
The reason: One of North’s most consistent midfielders this year, Greenwood has enjoyed a breakout season. Able to play a tagging role and win his own footy, the hard-nosed midfielder can also hit the scoreboard and has kicked 14 goals in 19 games. With Jobe Watson and Dyson Heppell in form, Greenwood could be sent to one for the night.

The challenge: None.
