While the North Melbourne fans packed into the MCG on Friday night to watch a famous victory, around Australia eyes were transfixed on televisions.

The do-or-die Semi Final raked in 1.856 million viewers at its peak and an average of 1.297 million over the night, the highest figures for any game this year.

In Melbourne, nearly over 760,000 people tuned in at its peak, while numbers in Perth (226,000 peak) went close to matching the home team’s (Fremantle) ratings the following night.

The numbers were up a massive 400,000 on last week’s Elimination Final clash against Essendon, with the Kangaroos quickly capturing the attention of AFL fans.
