Over the course of the season, North Melbourne’s Twitter handle - @northkangaroos – asked fans which plays they would like to see made into gifs.

Now with the year having come to a close, the best 32 gifs will battle against each other to take out the inaugural gif of the year title.

We’re now down to the last eight, with the quarter finals upon us. The voting period will continue to be approximately 24 hours for each match.

The full draw can be viewed at the bottom of the page.

Quarter Final 1

#1 Kayne Turner's smother (Semi-final) v Todd Goldstein's tap (Round 11)

Turner’s desperate lunge to cut off Joel Selwood’s inside 50 in the dying stages of the semi-final victory became the most viewed gif of the year.

Round 1: Defeated Sam Wright’s goal saving tackle with 86 per cent of the vote
Round 2: Defeated Lindsay Thomas’ leap with 74 per cent of the vote

For a 201cm ruckman, Goldstein is often a quicker thinker than many other players on the field who are much smaller and faster.

It proved that way against the Eagles. With a handball from Harvey coming his way, Goldstein realised he would have quickly been tackled he gained possession.  A quick tap back without taking the Sherrin gave his team-mate unexpected space to run into.

Round 1: Defeated Brent Harvey sits on the fence, with 63 per cent of the vote
Round 2: Defeated Brad McKenzie’s pass with 53 per cent of the vote

Quater Final 2

#2: Drew ‘Frank’ Petrie (Elimination Final) v Jamie Macmillan’s smother (Round 2)

Petrie’s impromptu celebration after putting his side in front in the Elimination Final instantly went viral on social media, drawing comparisons to ‘Frank the Tank’ from movie Old School.

Round 1: Defeated Scott Thompson’s candy with 79 per cent of the vote
Round 2: Defeated Ben Cunnington’s checkside with 68 per cent of the vote

When North faced the Western Bulldogs, Luke Dahlhaus was seemingly about to stroll in to an open goal. Macmillan came out of nowhere, barely in camera frame, and swatted his shot on goal to safety.

Round 1: Defeated Shaun Atley’s one handed mark with 50.08 per cent of the vote
Round 2: Defeated Lindsay Thomas’ candy with 59 per cent of the vote
