Almost 200 international students got their first taste of AFL football this month, with a special visit to Arden St to learn more about the great game.

As part of The Huddle's 'Welcome to Football' program, 172 international students from Melbourne University learnt all about the history of the game, the importance of the indigenous influence over the years, as well as a basic overview of all things AFL.

Following their brief introduction to the theory behind the game, the students got a chance to witness some footy for themselves, watching the entire North playing group train on the famous Arden St oval.

The students, who came from all over the world to study in Melbourne, were given a chance to get hands-on experience with a tailored footy skills session. While the oval ball was a little unfamiliar at first, the students quickly got the hang of it.

As part of the day, the students also got a great insight into The Huddle's programs and volunteer opportunities they can take up with the club during their studies in Melbourne.

The next step for the students is to see a game first-hand, and thanks to The Huddle, they'll be able to see the Kangaroos take on Brisbane in Round 2 at Etihad Stadium on April 12.
