Small forward Robbie Nahas has done his chances of earning a senior promotion no harm, starring in North Ballarat’s VFL practice match against Footscray at Eureka Stadium on Saturday.

The 27-year-old kicked five goals and had 16 disposals (nine kicks, seven handballs) in the Roosters’ six-point win.

Senior development coach Gavin Brown said Nahas looked lively during the match.

“(He’s) had two really good weeks. His defensive pressure was really good, he tackled and his inside 50 presence was good,” Brown told NMFC.com.au on Monday.

Midfielder Trent Dumont was among North Ballarat’s leading possession getters, finishing with 26 disposals (10 kicks, 16 handballs), nine clearances, nine tackles and a goal.

“His defensive pressure was good, he tackled, he went forward and kicked a nice lead-up goal, he spread hard and his stoppage work was really good,” Brown said.

Defender Max Warren added 14 disposals (six kicks, eight handballs) and seven marks to his name playing in defence.

“He controlled the backline and provided good run and rebound,” Brown said.

Draftee Braydon Preuss continued his promising development, registering seven possessions (five kicks, two handballs), 10 hit-outs and a goal playing as a key forward with stints in the ruck.

“He kicked a really nice snap shot goal over his shoulder, marked a couple of balls inside 50 and did some nice ruck work,” Brown said.

“He’s still learning the game but (he’s) showing some good signs every week.”

Fellow tall Sam Durdin showed some improvement from last week, collecting six touches (five kicks, one handball) and a goal.

“He kicked a nice crumbing goal even though he’s a key position player, and he competed well in the air to bring the ball to the ground for the smalls,” Brown said.
