Nielson underwent surgery on his knee on Monday, after rupturing his ACL during training a fortnight ago.

The 18-year-old injured his left knee in a tacking drill and required a full reconstruction.

Nielson had shown encouraging signs in his first pre-season at the club, after being selected with pick 25 in last year’s National Draft.

The former Eastern Ranges’ defender lined up in North’s opening round NAB Challenge match against the Crows.

A rookie replacement is yet to be named at this stage.
