There is already one confirmed omission for this week’s trip to Perth, with captain Andrew Swallow ruled out with a fractured thumb.

It makes the task of facing the ladder-leading Fremantle much tougher, but it does give a huge chance to the remaining midfield group of performing against what is currently the best outfit in the AFL.

Midfielders

Trent Dumont appears to be at the front of the queue for a call-up from the VFL. He was described as ‘influential’ for North Ballarat in its 22 point victory at Etihad Stadium.

With the 19-year-old’s strength lying in winning the contested ball, he could be just what is needed in the middle for North. His confidence will likely be boosted by his substitute appearance in Round 4, where he had five crucial disposals in the last quarter.

After playing his first full game of 2015 for the Roosters, Aaron Mullett could be an option to return and play on a wing, giving some extra pace and carry. However, he might need to build up his match fitness a little more before being considered for selection.

Forwards

Ben Brown’s availability is in question due to a knee injury sustained against the Bombers, which opens up a variety of options.

Regardless of whether the Tasmanian is able to play or not, Mason Wood will be a candidate to come back into the side after being rested last week. His ability to play either as a third tall forward or on the wing would provide some added flexibility to the rotations.

Kayne Turner returned to action for Werribee after a weekend off and instantly picked up where he left off, with his trademark defensive pressure on show.

Defenders

With the defensive unit in good form over the last fortnight, it would be tough to forecast many changes.

Lachlan Hansen, Scott Thompson, Robbie Tarrant and Michael Firrito will likely be relied upon to combat Fremantle’s aerial threat, with Ben Jacobs, Luke McDonald and company to deal with the likes of Hayden Ballantyne at ground level.
