Gold Coast will be without livewire forward Harley Bennell when they take on the Roos on Saturday.

The number two draft pick has been ruled out of the Suns line up, after controversial images of the 22-year-old appeared in the Herald Sun on Thursday.

Suns coach Rodney Eade said Bennell's welfare was the priority and he would not be named in the Gold Coast line up to take on North Melbourne.

"We're worried about the headspace he's in and his welfare," Eade said at a press conference today.

"From the club point of view we don't think it's appropriate that he plays this weekend."

Gold Coast CEO Andrew Travis echoed Eade's sentiments.

"Our priority overnight and throughout the morning is the genuine concern for Harley and his welfare," Travis said.

"We can't underestimate the toll of the last 12 hours could have had on his wellbeing. That will remain our absolute focus over the coming days. We own the issue and we are dealing with the challenges."

Meanwhile, Suns captain and Brownlow Medalist Gary Ablett is expected to be named when teams are confirmed on Thursday evening, having been absent since Round 2 with a shoulder injury.
