Looking to build on a season-long three game winning streak, North Melbourne will look for its first win against Carlton since 2012 this weekend.

The 72-point victory against Brisbane last weekend was underpinned by an even team performance, perhaps making it hard to foresee many changes. Nevertheless, there are several players in strong VFL form.

Forwards

Both Robbie Nahas and Aaron Black kicked four goals in North Ballarat’s 103-point demolition of Frankston last Saturday.

Nahas also collected 21 disposals and is putting extreme pressure on the small forward trio of Taylor Garner, Kayne Turner and Lindsay Thomas.

Black provided a strong aerial presence, adding eight marks and 14 disposals to his haul of goals.

Meanwhile Kieran Harper is drawing closer to his first senior game since 2013. After being named as an emergency for the clash against the Lions, the 23-year-old flew home and impressed for Werribee on the Sunday, kicking two goals in heavy conditions.

Defenders

Lachie Hansen made his return through the VFL on Sunday. Playing for Werribee after missing the last two weeks with a hip injury, the key-position defender got through three quarters before being taken off as a precaution.

However he was overshadowed by the ‘exceptional’ Scott McMahon, labelled as clearly Werribee’s best by Senior Development Coach Gavin Brown. The veteran was a calming influence against a quality Box Hill side and even ventured forward to kick a long range goal.

After missing last week at all levels due to hamstring tightness, Aaron Mullett could also be a candidate to return if passed fit.

Midfielders

Brad McKenzie has had a very good stretch of performances over the last month, working his way into quality form. His latest was racking up 28 disposals, including 24 kicks, in the Roosters’ victory last weekend.

Trent Dumont was another North Ballarat midfielder to excel, picking up 26 disposals, nine tackles and two goals of his own. It was one of his best games since returning to the VFL a month ago.
