North Melbourne is one of only nine clubs to have posted an increase in membership by five percent or more.

The Roos recorded an uplift of exactly five percent after the AFL released the official figures on Wednesday.

While the league released a figure of 41,012 and a rise of 1,952 for North, the club’s numbers differ slightly.

“Since the AFL’s official 31st July cut-off date the club has continued to sell memberships and our current total stands at 41,418. This marks our sixth consecutive year of membership growth and it’s a wonderful result,” North CEO Carl Dilena said.

Dilena said he was particularly thrilled at seeing 7,793 new members hop on board in 2015 and 10,292 junior members sign up.

“It is the first year the club has had more than 10,000 junior members and the numbers show our fans believe we’re heading in the right direction,” he said.

“After a preliminary final appearance last year and more finals beckoning this season and beyond, the future is incredibly bright and our magnificent supporters know that it’s a great time to be a member of North Melbourne.”

North’s Tasmanian membership also increased substantially to 5,043, up from 4,314 last year.

“We had bumper crowds at Blundstone Arena for our three games and the support down there is increasing rapidly,” Dilena said.

“Our fans and the broader community in Tasmania know we are heavily invested in them and we have been truly embraced as a result.”

While North saw an uplift in numbers, Adelaide, Carlton and Collingwood all suffered disappointing drops.

The AFL’s overall tally, which was compiled after the July 31 deadline, was 836,136 club members nationally, with an overall increase of 31,656.

AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan said it was "a wonderful tribute to our AFL clubs and the wider game" that one in every 28 Australians was a member of an AFL club.

"Every year, AFL fans commit to their club to show the passion and loyalty for their favourite players and the AFL thanks those supporters who are the game's driving force," he said.

"With more fans signed up to their club than ever before, I want to urge members to continue to make the most of their membership and support their club by attending as many games as possible over the course of a season."
