Ed Vickers-Willis has undergone surgery on the opposite shoulder to the one reconstructed earlier this year.

But despite the disappointing news, the youngster is expected to be available for selection in Round 1.

Vickers-Willis, who underwent a left shoulder reconstruction in June, injured his right shoulder during the club’s recent pre-season training camp in Utah.

North GM - Football Operations & List Management Cameron Joyce said the 19-year-old was hurt while taking part in a tackling drill in Park City’s Fieldhouse during the latter stages of the camp.

“It’s certainly very frustrating for Ed as he had returned to full training when this latest injury occurred on his opposite shoulder,” Joyce said.

“He’s been working extremely hard to make his way back and was certainly impressing on the track, so it’s a bitter pill to swallow.

“While he will miss some of the pre-season campaign, we fully expect him to be ready to play once Round 1 rolls around at the end of March.”

Joyce said despite the injury, the defender had remained positive.

“He’s certainly not letting this latest setback get him down and has certainly impressed everyone at Arden St with his positive attitude to the news.”

Vickers-Willis was drafted with pick 36 in the 2014 National Draft and is well known for his skill by foot and athleticism.

He played in five VFL games for Werribee in 2015, before injury ended his season.
