North Melbourne defender Michael Firrito is available to face Collingwood on Friday night after being cleared of an incident with Port Adelaide’s Jarman Impey on Saturday.

Meanwhile Jay Schulz has been handed a $1,000 fine for tripping Robbie Tarrant.

The MRP’s assessment

Contact between North Melbourne’s Michael Firrito and Port Adelaide’s Jarman Impey from the second quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. Impey had the ball and was running forward towards his team’s goals. The Port Adelaide player had evaded two opponents and Firrito was coming towards him, when Impey sought to change direction.

Impey lowered his body to try and evade Firrito and high contact was made to Impey with Firrito’s chest area. The Port Adelaide player was paid a free kick at the time and was immediately able to take his kick. It was the panel’s view there was insufficient force in the high contact made to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.

Jay Schulz, Port Adelaide, has been charged with tripping Robbie Tarrant, North Melbourne, during the fourth quarter of the Round 17 match between Port Adelaide and North Melbourne, played at Etihad Stadium on Saturday July 16, 2016.

In summary, he can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea.

Based on the available video evidence and a medical report from the North Melbourne Football Club, the incident was assessed as intentional conduct with low impact to the body. The incident was classified as a $1500 sanction. The player has no applicable record which impacts the penalty. An early plea enables the player to accept a $1000 sanction.
