- Makes his debut in Round 22 against Richmond, collecting one handball as North wins by 32 points

1997

- Plays his first final, named in the semi-final side which defeats West Coast at the MCG

1998

- Polls his first Brownlow votes in Round 3, earning a best-on-ground for five goals against Port Adelaide

1999

- Plays his 50th game in Round 9 against Fremantle, collecting 21 disposals as North wins by 30 points
- Selected in the Victorian side for State of Origin, winning the EJ Whitten Medal
- Registers career hit-out number one in Round 17 against Essendon
- Becomes a premiership player, named in the 22 which defeats Carlton in the Grand Final

2000

- Selected in the All-Australian side for the first time

2001

- Plays his 100th game in Round 13 against Port Adelaide, collecting 32 disposals as North wins by 22 points

2002

- Has his first 40-possession game of his career against Collingwood in Round 13, also kicking two goals

2003

- Plays his 150th game in Round 22 against Carlton, collecting 21 disposals as North wins by 124 points
- Wins his first Syd Barker Medal

2004

- Played three games with his brother Shane

2005

- Wins his second Syd Barker Medal
- Selected in the All-Australian team for the second time

2006

- Plays his 200th game in Round 6 against Hawthorn, collecting 31 disposals as North wins by 22 points

2007

- Finishes equal second in the Brownlow Medal, his highest ever finish
- Wins his third Syd Barker Medal
- Selected in the All-Australian team for the third time

2008

- Plays his 250th game in Round 9 against the Western Bulldogs, collecting 15 disposals as North wins by two points
- Wins his fourth Syd Barker Medal
- Selected in the All-Australian team for the fourth time

2009

- Named as captain of the club, taking over from Adam Simpson
- Suffers his first major injury, with a dislocated elbow keeping him out of action for two months

2010

- Tallies a career-high 44 disposals in Round 3 against West Coast
- Plays his 300th game in Round 21 against West Coast, collecting 26 disposals as North wins by 16 points
- Wins his fifth Syd Barker Medal, tied with Brady Rawlings

2011

- Breaks the NMFC games record previously held by Glenn Archer, in Round 12 against Gold Coast, collecting 29 disposals as North wins by 59 points
- Relinquishes the captaincy at the end of the season, handing it over to Andrew Swallow

2012

- Kicks a remarkable 35.9 for the season, the most accurate year of his career

2013

- Plays his 350th game in Round 10 against St Kilda, collecting 23 disposals as North wins by 68 points

2014

- Registers career hit-out number two against West Coast in Round 11

2015

- Plays his 400th game in Round 17 against Brisbane, collecting 27 disposals as North wins by 72 points

2016

- Kicks his 500th career goal in Round 11 against Richmond
- Equals the VFL/AFL games record in Round 18 against Collingwood, collecting 25 disposals as North wins by 40 points
