Youngster Ben McKay says he’s “absolutely stoked” to have signed a new two-year deal.

The 18-year-old will be at Arden St until at least 2019, after an extension to his original two year contract was confirmed on Friday.

McKay said his first year as a professional footballer had exceeded his expectations.

“It’s been amazing,” McKay told NMFC.com.au.

“It’s everything I wished for. So much learning, a lot of fun, and I’m just happy to be here and stoked to get another two years.”

On top of the contract news, McKay’s consistent good run form with VFL affiliate Werribee has seen the number 23 rewarded with an emergency listing against Hawthorn this weekend.

“It was pretty exciting (being named an emergency),” McKay added.

“’Joycey’ (GM List Management & Football Operations Cameron Joyce) rang me up just before, so, yeah it’s good to get a look in, I’ll just keep chipping away at it and hopefully soon (will get selected in the AFL side).”

McKay praised his teammates for their support, particularly those he shares the forward line with day-in, day-out.

“I’ve got so many good people around me, so many good players, so many good coaches. so I’ll just try to get as much out of them while I can and just keep chipping away and hopefully play a few games in the next couple of years.”

Drew Petrie, Ben Brown and Jarrad Waite have all been working with McKay during his first year at Arden St.

“They are all champions, it’s so good to have them in your back pocket every day just to learn so much from them.

“They’ve got a wealth of knowledge, a wealth of experience so just to have them right with me is so handy, it’s unbelievable.”
