Summary

Arguably the toughest task in the VFL awaits Werribee, travelling to Casey Fields and taking on the ladder-leading Scorpions.

It’s a must-win game for Werribee to keep its season alive. With only three rounds remaining, it sits one match outside the final eight; low percentage meaning the Tigers also have to rely on other results going their way.

The call-up of Robbie Nahas and Lachlan Hansen to the North side means the Tigers are missing two of their key players, but it has been offset by the returns of Brad McKenzie and Sam Wright.

The coach said

“Playing for three quarters, as we learned, isn’t enough.

“Your ability to defend differentiates the top teams to the middle teams and the bottom teams.

“It’s a learning curve for (the inexperienced players), and we’re trying to flatten that out as quick as we can.” – John Lamont to Star Weekly

The AFL contingent

North Melbourne (Werribee)

Sam Wright makes his long awaited return from injury on Sunday. It’ll be his first match since early June after a nine-week layoff.

Down forward, Sam Durdin and Ben McKay will lead the forward line, with Corey Wagner at ground level after Robbie Nahas’ call-up to the AFL side.

Casey (Melbourne)

Sitting in top spot on the VFL ladder, Casey has a strong contingent of Melbourne players to call on.

The likes of Jack Trengove, Ben Kennedy and Christian Salem litter the midfield, while Colin Garland, Jack Grimes and Lynden Dunn have all been named in the Scorpions’ back six.

The VFL contingent

Werribee

In each of the last two weeks, midfielder Tom Gribble has racked up 44-disposal matches. Meanwhile Matt Hanson continues his excellent year, likely well out in front for the club’s best and fairest award.
