The Huddle has again been recognised for its ground breaking work with young people, this time collecting the Centre for Multicultural Youth’s MY Education Awards.

Presented by Minister for Education James Merlino, the award was presented in recognition of excellence in homework clubs as well as outstanding contributions made by volunteer tutors, students and schools.

“Building the Education State is about giving every Victorian the opportunity to succeed in life, regardless of their background or circumstance,” Mr Merlino said.

"I congratulate the winners and thank all of the volunteers who give up their time each week to provide students with a love of learning and feeling of inclusion.

“We’re proud to work with and help fund the Centre for Multicultural Youth to support schools in providing students and families from refugee backgrounds with extra support so they can realise their full potential."

The Huddle is a not-for-profit initiative of the North Melbourne Football Club, the Scanlon Foundation and the Australian Multicultural Foundation. It was created to engage, support and empower young people to build on their strengths, increase their ability to participate in society and contribute to more socially inclusive communities. The Huddle has engaged more than 50,000 young people from culturally diverse backgrounds since 2010.

The Huddle has set the standard in the community winning several awards including the Victorian Premier's Award for Community Harmony in 2012, the Sports Leadership Award (National Migration and Settlement) in 2013 and the Victorian Community Sport and Recreation Award (Minister's Award) in 2014.
