When it comes to bizarre off-season injuries, there have been many, but Scott Thompson’s addition to the list has almost taken the cake.

Following a minor procedure to repair his injured adductor the defender almost found himself back in hospital after an unfortunate slip.

Thompson had just returned home on new year’s eve after a brief holiday and was cleaning the house when he put his wrong foot forward.

“We’d just come back and obviously hadn’t changed the dog’s water bowl over,” Thompson explained to NMFC.com.au.

“He drank some old water and threw it up on the floor. I was in thongs and didn’t see it, stepped over a Christmas present and just kept on going.”

With his wound still fresh, the 30-year-old almost did the splits on the kitchen floor.

“I think it was New Year’s Eve I gave it a little test out on the floor at home. I actually slipped over in my dog’s vomit, so it was a good little test.”

Luckily the slip-up hasn’t set him back too far.

“It’s coming along well. It’s a couple of weeks off, but I’m out running and just joined in today with a few kicking drills." Thompson added.

“I’m running now and just integrating into a little bit of skills, so I’d hope to be fully training in three weeks, and hopefully play a couple of the pre-season games."

As for the future, Thompson has vowed to always play it safe by the water.
