A sore stomach turning into a bout of pneumonia was hardly in Aaron Mullett’s plans for the tail-end of his pre-season.

“Just before our first practice match against Werribee and a couple of the intra-club we had on Friday’s, I started getting really bad stomach cramps,” Mullett explained to NMFC.com.au.

“I knew something wasn’t right, so I got it checked out.

“They put a camera down there and had a look at it, they call it a gastroscopy.”

Mullett and the club initially thought the gastroscopy would solve any problems.

However, a few days later the 25-year-old developed a persistent cough which wouldn’t go away.

“I just always thought to get through each session, get through the day, then the week, and by the weekend I’d be fine, but it just never turned around,” Mullett said.

After persisting through, another check-up was when Mullett discovered the problem was worse than a simple cough.

“When we got it checked out we found out it was pneumonia and that’s why the antibiotics weren’t working,” Mullett revealed.

“Then I went and saw a specialist, they put down a camera, had a look, cleaned that out and from there it cleared up pretty quick.”

A period of complete rest had Mullett feeling better in quick time, before joining back in with training and pushing his name forward for Round 1.
