Shaun Atley is relishing the opportunity to spend more time in the midfield this pre-season.

Atley told NMFC.com.au he and his teammates were gearing up for round one, with a strong focus on the final JLT Community Series clash against GWS this Friday.

“We’ve had a good couple of weeks in the JLT, with young boys getting some experience,” Atley said.

“We have been focusing on implementing a game plan for young players, after the turnover we’ve had (in the off-season).”

In the lead up to round one, Atley has been playing further up the ground, using his pace and experience in the Roos’ midfield.

“It’s a learning role… something that I’m enjoying, and looking forward to one more practice game this weekend and then the real stuff.”

When asked about any standouts on the training track, Atley said one of North’s youngest midfielders had taken his game to another level.

“I’ve been pretty impressed with Trent Dumont, he is one to watch,” the number 18 said.
