Ben Brown is leading the charge for marriage equality as part of a new AFL Players’ campaign.

Members of AFL and AFLW teams are calling for same-sex marriage to be legalized in Australia.

More than 50 AFL players have signed The Equality Campaign petition, with Brown telling The Herald Sun it was “a bit of a no brainer” that same-sex couples should have the same right to marry as he will at the end of the year.

“It’s just about caring about your fellow human I think — we’re all going to get behind it and the entire AFL is really,” he said.

“In some ways it’s a bit embarrassing to be a country that says we’re progressive about these kind of issues, but we’re lagging behind some others with this particular piece of legislation.”

Brown is one of several players to appear in a video supporting same-sex marriage, marking May 17’s International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT).
