Gold Coast is “more than hopeful” Gary Ablett will return for Saturday afternoon’s clash against North Melbourne.

Ablett pulled out of what was set to be his 300th game with a calf complaint, but could return for the match at Metricon Stadium.

"He did a test [on] Friday but didn't get through that," Suns’ coach Rodney Eade said.

"We're more than hopeful but, with his age, we'll just wait and see ... he's had tight calves before."

Gold Coast will also be sweating on the fitness of Pearce Hanley, who left the field in the last quarter of the match against St Kilda with a hamstring injury.

"We think it might be neural still ... we don't think he's done it. Pearce is pretty certain he hasn't," Eade said.

Brandon Matera (foot) and Kade Kolodjashnij (concussion) are set to be available to return, while Matt Rosa is available after a suspension.

Aaron Hall will remain on the sidelines after injuring his hamstring at training on Friday.
