North Melbourne was ‘ecstatic’ to land Luke Davies-Uniacke at Friday night’s NAB AFL Draft, Brad Scott says.

The 187-centimetre midfielder was taken with the Roos’ first selection, pick 4, and the Roos’ coach expects he’ll fit in perfectly at Arden Street.

“We’re ecstatic. Luke’s a player we really needed to add to our list,” Scott told NMFC.com.au after the Draft.

“He’s got a lot of attributes there as a midfielder that we need. We’re delighted that he was there with our pick.

“We rated the top end of the draft fairly highly, but we saw them as being fairly even. Luke was certainly very, very high on our list.”

Rated by some experts as the ‘most complete midfielder in the Draft’, Davies-Uniacke is strong-bodied, and can also go forward and impact the scoreboard.

“We’ve watched him very closely over a long period of time, and he’s a penetrating player, he’s a game-breaking player,” Scott said.

“Some of his games this year, particularly around finals were absolutely elite and match-winning.

“We think he’ll add a lot to our midfield and we’re just really happy to have him.”

North bolstered its emerging midfield stocks on Draft night, adding Will Walker, Kyron Hayden and former Hawk Billy Hartung. The Roos also took emerging ruckman Tristan Xerri.
