North Melbourne’s own VFL side became a reality on Thursday with five players now contracted for season 2018.

Talent including former North Ballarat midfielder Nick Rippon and utility Mitch Rodd, Sandringham Dragons defender Max Hayes, Canberra Demons midfielder Jordan Harper and Central Districts midfielder Chris Jansen, are amongst those first to sign on.

“These guys have tremendous talent and were amongst the best players of their former clubs,” North VFL List Manager Nick Byrne said.

“Guys like Rippon, Jansen and Harper have all been recognised as best and fairest players and have a great deal of class and experience.

“Rippon is a powerhouse, Jansen is not only a great decision maker but executes, and Harper is a very talented running machine.”

Byrne said the depth and versatility of the group is impressive and exciting.

“Mitch Rodd is a versatile utility with great athleticism, he will be a real asset to us,” he said.

“We will be able to use him in a range of roles, his height being a great asset, and will work with him to build on the depth and intricacies of his game.

“Max Hayes has shown his ability to play different roles in the defensive line and reads the play exceptionally well.

“He (Hayes) has shown potential in his offensive game so this is something we will work closely with him on throughout the pre-season and into next year.”

North will make further contract announcements in the coming days as it finalises its VFL list.
