North Melbourne VFL Manager Andrew Carson believes there is plenty of opportunity to capitalise early in the season following the release of the fixture on Friday.

“We see a real chance to make an impact on the competition within the opening few rounds,” Carson said.

“We have signed some elite talent in the last few weeks, which puts us in good stead.”

Following a first-round bye, North’s first official game will be at 'home' against the Northern Blues.

“We really hope our fans can get out and support the side in its first hit out," Carson said.

“We are making history at North by going stand alone, and we invite all our fans to join us on what will be an exciting journey.”

While the start of the season may be favourable, Carson knows the challenges will come - particularly in Round 5 when North takes on one of the finalists from last season; Essendon at Whitten Oval.

“Essendon was a very strong side last year and it will be a good test for us," Carson commented.

“No game is ever an easy game, we know that so it's up to us to bring it to the best in the competition and show we have what it takes to be a successful side.”

The VFL season is set to kick off on the first weekend in April.
