A players’ vote has reinstalled Jack Ziebell as North Melbourne skipper for a second straight season.

“It’s an absolute honour to lead this club again and I’m really excited by the future,” Ziebell told North Media.

Ziebell, 26, retains the captaincy after taking the reins from Andrew Swallow at the end of the 2016 season.

“I think I learned a lot last year and am better for it. Being captain has its challenges but the way we rallied last year after a slow start was rewarding and I personally took a lot out of that experience,” Ziebell added.

“We have a young list and the energy and enthusiasm around the club is really encouraging.

“I think if we can stay healthy this season, we have what it takes to be super competitive and like we did at times last year, beat the best teams in the competition.”

Key defender Robbie Tarrant has been re-appointed as vice-captain, with Shaun Higgins and Jamie Macmillan rounding out the four-man leadership group.

“It’s smaller group than in previous years but very experienced and well-rounded,” Ziebell said.

“We have a large group of emerging leaders coming through also which will hold us in good stead in the coming years.”
