While North's leadership group has decreased in size over the years, the club's four-man group in 2018 is one of the most rounded and capable according to those who voted.

The players recently endorsed Jack Ziebell as captain for the second straight year, and left no one guessing as to why.

“I think Ziebs is a great example of someone who has to be a captain,” Daniel Nielson told North Media.

“He leads by example both on and off the field by always making sure that everyone’s on track, morale is up and he is always trying to get everyone in a good mood to feel the best they can for training.”

The 26-year-old’s hard-nosed approach and professionalism is a trait that his teammates look up to according to Paul Ahern.

“He’s just a professional with the way he goes about it in the gym and on the track,” Ahern said.

“Ziebs’ actions speak for themself,” Shaun Atley added.

“The way he goes about things on the field just inspires the rest of the boys, and I think he’s a really well-rounded leader and perfect for the footy club.”

Defender Robbie Tarrant takes on the role as vice-captain again, and Jarrad Waite believes his voice around the club is what makes him the leader he is.

“The way he speaks to everyone is really good,” Waite said.

“He’s probably one of the most vocal of the whole group.”

Reigning Syd Barker Medallist Shaun Higgins remains in the leadership brigade, with his on-field leadership and footy smarts making him a valuable asset.

“Obviously he’s amazing on-field given he won our best and fairest, and I think everyone knows he can deliver when it comes to not only on-field, but also off-field,” Mason Wood commented.

“He’s great strategically, and he really implements our game plan, drives that on the training track, and really demands high standards.

“He is the ultimate professional and exactly what we need with this young group.”

Fellow midfielder Ryan Clarke is equally impressed by Higgins.

“He always gives me his time, especially to look at extra vision so I’m really happy he’s in that leadership group,” Clarke said.

Jamie Macmillan rounds out the four-man group, with his openness and outspoken nature in meetings a strong attribute.

“He’s pretty easy to talk to,” Josh Williams said.

“He’s one of those blokes you can talk to about anything.”

“J-Mac’s been very good as a leader for this footy club for the past few years,” Atley added.

“He’s very vocal on the field, which is you want a leader, and he’s not afraid to share his opinion around the place.

“The boys are happy to have him back in there.”
