A mix of North Melbourne AFL and VFL-listed players will be in action on Saturday in a practice match against Williamstown.

The fixture at Arden Street will see many looking to impress ahead of the Roos’ season-opener against Gold Coast the following week.

It’s also the first chance for VFL coach David Loader to get a gauge on the progress of his squad.

"We're looking forward to playing some games and seeing how the boys put things into play,” Loader told North Media.

"We want to play footy a certain way here at North Melbourne and that's something that we've tried to instil in this group over the pre-season, so we'll find out how that's coming along in real games of footy.

"Starting this week we'll see how each player's been able to pick up the method we want to play with, how fit they are, and how they go at this level. It's all exciting stuff."

Fans are invited to attend Saturday’s practice match, with the first bounce at around 10.30am at Arden Street.

The North VFL squad will be announced on Friday.
