Taylor Garner could miss another two weeks with North taking an ultra-cautious approach with his groin injury.

The 24-year-old’s injury history has prompted the Roos to be extra conservative according to the club’s GM football, Cameron Joyce.

“It’s important that Taylor is one hundred per cent fit and confident in his body before he comes back,” Joyce told North media.

“It’s obviously frustating for him and us, but we’re very clear on our approach with him and need to ensure that he’s given the best opportunity to have a sustained run when he does return.”

Plagued by persistent hamstring and hip injuries, Garner played a career-high 18 games in 2017 but has played just 34 games in the past four years since his debut in 2013.

“We know that when he’s cleared to play, hopefully in the next few weeks, he’ll be able to have a big impact for us.

“But we won’t rush him back and will play it safe because of his injury history.”

It’s a similar situation with draftee Kyron Hayden who will have to bide his time in rehab for a few more weeks.

“Kyron is a contested ball player so we want to make sure his shoulder is as strong as possible when he returns,” Joyce said.

“Age too, plays a part and at 18, we’re not going to put him out there until he’s 100 per cent ready.

“For Kyron, it’s about building up the strength in his shoulder and also having full range of motion. He’s not quite there yet but he is tracking well.”
