With three practice games now under the belt, it’s all systems go for David Loader and the North VFL team.

North remains undefeated this pre-season, and with just one practice match remaining before its season opener on April 15, the coach couldn’t be happier.

“We’re not counting the wins and losses, but certainly the method we played with tonight was really pleasing,” Loader told North Media on Saturday night.

“There’s so many positives to come out of the game, and like every game of footy, there’s a heap of learning stuff to come out of it.

“There were some great individual performances, but above everything else, the guys understood some of the concept stuff we’ve been working through.”

North’s 25-man squad on Saturday night featured 18 AFL-listed players and seven VFL-listed players, with the coach pleasantly surprised by the way the players have integrated in such a short space of time.

“There’s no doubt about it, they (the VFL-listed players) have fitted in better than we even expected,” he said.

“When you get good people in, that’s what you get.

“They’re playing really important roles for us, and are complimenting our AFL players where they can, so it’s a great mix at the minute.”

This was evident in the midfield, with Chris Jansen, Nash Holmes and Nick Rippon starring in the centre alongside Braydon Preuss.

Up forward, Nick Larkey continued to impress in-front of goal, taking his tally to 14 in just three matches.

Loader believes the young forward will be nearing an AFL recall if he continues to play as well as he has been.

“To kick another four, Nick’s showing some really good solid form, and this is great for his development,” he added.

“If he can play good footy for long enough in the VFL, hopefully he gets his chance in the AFL.”
