AFLW: Eager to start

AFLW: Stanton interview (May 17, 2018) Jamie Stanton talks to North Media about making the big move to North's new team.

Eager to develop her game, Jamie Stanton couldn’t be happier after signing with the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos.

“[It’s] amazing to be honest. It’s just really good to get it all out of the way and start the new season,” Stanton told North Media.

Originally from Brisbane, the former junior Matilda soccer player made an immediate impact on the AFLW competition with a runner-up finish in the Lions’ best-and-fairest last year.

The exciting midfielder with an impressive work rate continues to show rapid growth since her transition from the round ball game.

“To start something new and coming to Melbourne has always been a bit of a thing for me, it’s a big new challenge and [I] just want to improve as a player,” Stanton said.

“I want to develop my midfield game, my all-round footy game really, and I think North is the best place for me.”

Stanton said the excitement around North’s newly acquired elite talent helped her with the decision to move to Arden St.

“There’s a couple of key signings that definitely did have an influence on my decision, obviously Emma Kearney is a really big one,” Stanton said.

“[I] just wanted to get in and amongst it with her and learn as much as I can off her as she’s such a great player.

“The other key singings [that] have come out recently also a big factor as well.”

Stanton will join the likes of Emma Kearney, Jasmine Garner, Jess Duffin, Danielle Hardiman and Tahlia Randall.
