Two-time premiership captain Wayne Carey has labelled North Melbourne as a destination club for AFL players, following its impressive start to the season.

“I’ll tell you what they are becoming...they are becoming a destination club,” Carey said on Channel 7’s Talking Footy.

“There will be players looking at the Kangaroos now and say ‘they are going somewhere’.

“All of a sudden, like I said, they might be able to attract one of those big fish they go after.”

Carey said coach Brad Scott deserved credit for providing opportunities to players from other club.

“I’ll tell you the reason why players from outside North will be looking there, it is because of Brad Scott,” fellow panellist Brian Taylor added.

“If you look at the guys that have come from other clubs, (Shaun) Higgins, (Jarrad) Waite, (Jed) Anderson, (Ben) Jacobs and (Billy) Hartung, Brad Scott has made them all better.

“They’re all better than what they were at their previous clubs.”

Higgins and Anderson are averaging career-high disposal numbers, with 24.7 and 19.2 respectively.

Hartung is averaging a personal best in tackles, while Jarrad Waite is averaging over two goal per match, his most since joining North at the end of 2014.

Midfielder Jacobs is also in career-best form, averaging 16.7 disposals per match, while being considered as one of the game’s most damaging taggers.
