Re-signed: Ed looks ahead

June 22, 2018 10:03 AM

The exciting future of North Melbourne was a key factor in emerging youngster Ed Vickers-Willis' decision to re-sign with the club.

Inking a two-year contract extension, the 22-year-old will call Arden St home until at least the end of 2020.

“I think just how exciting it is to be here, I really enjoyed playing footy late last year and this year, and I think what we’re building over the coming years and the rest of this year is just something you want to be a part of,” Vickers-Willis told North Media.

“There’s some talent coming through in the VFL that we haven’t seen at AFL level yet and it’s even more exciting."

Despite undergoing season ending surgery after injuring his right knee in Round 7, the club was eager to lock away the rising defender and future leader.

“Things [contract discussions] were put on hold when I did my knee but over the last few weeks we’ve been able to get it done and [it was a] pretty easy process,” Vickers-Willis continued.

“It’s a pretty difficult time having been injured quite a few times, and especially this one.”

Vickers-Willis expressed his gratitude for the club’s unwavering support.

“[I’ve] just starting to get some continuity at AFL level so I can’t be thankful enough of the club just to put that faith in me that they know I can get back out there and play some good footy over the coming years,” Vickers-Willis said.

“I really want to thank them for that.”

Vickers-Willis has played 14 games since his Round 5 debut last year.
