Melbourne Uni (MUWFC) celebrated a tough six-point win over the Southern Saints on the weekend to get back on the winners' list.

Potential upcoming No.1 draft pick, Maddison Prespakis, teamed up nicely alongside just three North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos' listed players Sophie Abbantangelo, Ash Riddell and Dani Hardiman.

“With only three AFLW players, the result demonstrates how far the VFLW girls have come this season,” coach Scott Gowans said.

“This has potentially been fast tracked with the amount of talented AFLW players we’ve had access to and it makes it really exciting for the future of women’s footy.”

Rebecca Webster from the Murray Bushrangers played her first game for MUWFC and only got better as the game went on.

The previous week saw MUWFC take on top four contender Hawthorn, in what was a hard fought contest. Despite falling short by a narrow six-points on home turf, North's AFLW stars provided plenty of excitement.

Out-pressuring the best pressure side in the competition, Gowans said it was an impressive display despite the end result.

“Hawthorn is a really strong competitor and the fact we we’re able to challenge them today shows what we are capable of,” Gowans said.

“It’s also fantastic to see the AFLW players teach and help develop the up and coming VFLW players each week.”

Kaitlyn Ashmore exposed the opposition with her run and was supported by second-gamer Emma Humphries who played multiple roles.

Captain Ash Riddell continued her amazing season with 26 disposals, 10 inside 50s, 5 clearances and 7 tackles, despite being heavily tagged.

Standing tall in defence was Kate Gillespie-Jones and Dani Hardiman, who provided plenty of rebound out of the backline.
