Background

Ben Speight was recruited from Norwood in the SANFL and came to North Melbourne at 18 with senior experience.

Speight provides another attacking option through the midfield and half forward.

2012

  • 2012 was a step backwards for Speight with pre-season shoulder troubles preventing him from building on the eight games he played the previous year.
  • He was unable to capture the same spark and spent the season playing for Werribee at VFL level.
  • 2013 looms as a critical year for the midfielder who has to force his way back into senior contention.

Season by Season

Season by Season

  • The introduction of the substitute paved the way for Speight to make a name for himself.
  • His performance in Round 17 against the Bulldogs earned him the label of 'super sub' after he turned the match with a superb chase-down tackle on Jarrad Grant.
  • But unfortunately it was that tackle which put Speight onto the injury list with a shoulder injury and prevented him from playing another senior game.
  • After not being able to crack the senior side in his first year, Speight made his debut in Round 17 against Essendon.
  • With his two games for the year impressive, Speight was promoted to the senior list in the year end National Draft.
