Background

A strong key position defender who is rarely beaten in one-on-one contests, Luke Delaney was recruited from the Geelong Falcons.

Delaney was originally a rookie draft selection before being promoted to the senior list.

2012

  • Much like his debut season, Delaney was brought into the side for his first game of 2012 to play against Tom Hawkins in Round 3. Hawkins' return of four goals flattered the key forward as Delaney took the points on the day.
  • After eight consecutive games from Rounds 3-10, Delaney was in and out of the side for the second half of the season. Nathan Grima's strong form coupled with Scott Thompson and Michael Firrito, meant there was simply no room for him to fit.
  • He was perhaps a touch unlucky to lose his spot for the Elimination Final against West Coast, but he took another step forward in his second season of senior football.

Season by Season

Season by Season

  • Delaney forced his way into the team and made his debut against Jonathan Brown and Brisbane in Round 9. He acquitted himself admirably under the circumstances and marked himself down as a player of the future.
  • He played eight of the next nine games, but after lowering his colours to Barry Hall in Round 17, he was demoted to the VFL and unable to reclaim his spot in the side for the rest of the season.
