Recruited from the Dandenong Stingrays with Pick 4 in the Rookie Draft, Murphy came to North’s attention after initially trialling and training with the club’s new VFL team.

A strong rebounding defender who is able to go into the midfield or forward if required, Murphy impressed recruiters and coaches so much that he was drafted and rookie-listed for the senior team.

Armed with an elite kick, North fans will be hoping Murphy can impress even further and put his hat in the ring for senior selection.

Season by season

Tom Murphy made headlines in Round 11, after learning he would debut against Brisbane just minutes before the opening bounce.

Despite the chaotic preparation, the half-backer looked comfortable at the level almost immediately, by showing his composure and impressive disposal by foot.

Murphy played four straight games once debuting, but finished the season in the VFL.

North was encouraged by what it saw in Murphy, extending his contract until 2020.
