First-year forward Paul Curtis (r) with Tarryn Thomas

North Melbourne’s crop of new draftees have continued to impress in their first pre-season at Arden Street.

While No.1 pick Jason Horne-Francis has been selected for a Round 1 debut, North’s four other draftees have made huge strides towards senior call-ups of their own, according to forward coach Heath Younie.

"(Josh) Goater came in to do some really good things (in the Community Series match) against Sydney, Paul Curtis does some things at training that make you think he’s not far away. You know if you bring Arch (Jackson Archer) in he’s just going to compete, and Miller Bergman has been outstanding and progressed really strongly," Younie said in the latest Member Q&A, presented by AIA Vitality.

"They're all probably closer than what they think. It's just a case of waiting for that opportunity.

"The development team have done a wonderful job in progressing them … they’re a great crop of players who we're lucky to have on our list."

Having played senior SANFL football since the age of 16, Jason Horne-Francis was selected by North as the most game-ready player in his draft class.

Head of Development Gavin Brown says Horne-Francis is a rare talent, already possessing the physical attributes to compete at the top level of men's football.

"My experience is some players you can pick straight away and you can align them to a certain type. Jason, for me, is not in that category," Brown said.

"He has a lot of great attributes a lot of great players have. A lot of the players I played with, most of them had a weapon. [Horne-Francis] has got a number of weapons.

"His ability to bring those into the game week-in, week-out with a really strong work ethic … is going to see him become one of those great players."
