Luke McDonald and Jy Simpkin have been recognised by senior coaches David Noble and Sam Mitchell for their performances on Sunday, with the pair both polling coaches votes from the Round 1 clash with Hawthorn.

After spending much of the 2021 campaign on the wing, McDonald returned to the backline with great effect on the weekend, as he registered a game-high 13 intercepts, along with 27 disposals at 88.9 per cent efficiency.

His efforts saw him rewarded with six votes.

Fellow co-vice captain Jy Simpkin started the game off in style for the Kangaroos with a goal within the first minute of the game, and he only grew into the contest from there.

Finishing with 29 disposals, two goals, five tackles and four clearances, Simpkin received two votes.
